2018 Honoree

Jason Kopera

Jason enlisted in the Army in 2009 and served for three and a half years obtaining the rank of Specialist before being Honorably Discharged at the end of 2012 due to injuries sustained during his deployment.

 

During his time in the Army, he was a Military Police Officer and Team Leader. During his deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, his primary role was the lead vehicle driver for the Combat Engineer unit he was attached to. His unit was tasked at clearing a vast majority of the roads to include; main highways and heavily traveled city roads, as well as, country roads; many which haven't been cleared since the beginning of the Iraqi War.

 

Among that role, he also served as the Platoon's Primary Communications Expert, Weapons Expert, and Secondary Medic. During dismounted missions, he was tasked as the Platoon's Designated Long Range Marksman and Radio Operator. Jason's unit was the last unit in Iraq that served under Operation Iraqi Freedom and spear headed Operation New Dawn.

 

The United States Army has awarded Jason in order of precedence; Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Superior Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army National Defense Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, Army Global War On Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Overseas Service Ribbon.

 

Jason also achieved the Expert Shooters badge in Carbine and Pistol and the Drivers badge with wheeled device.

 

Jason is an active member and alumni of The Wounded Warrior Project, The Disabled American Veterans Post #18, VFW Post #8214, American Legion Post #0122, Operation Delta Dog, player for the Skate for 22 Foundation, and the VA. Jason currently serves as an Emergency Services Dispatcher at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, lives with his service dog Dove, and his fiancé Emily.
